ADC Petitions INEC, Seeks Removal of Chairman Prof Joash Amupitan Over Alleged Misconduct

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has submitted a formal petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), calling for the immediate resignation or removal of its Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, over allegations of partisan behaviour, gross misconduct, and violations of the party’s constitution.

In the petition, the party accused Amupitan of allegedly acting beyond his official duties by assuming the role of interpreting judicial pronouncements—an authority the ADC maintained belongs strictly to the judiciary.

The party insisted that such actions undermine internal democratic processes and raise serious concerns about the neutrality expected of the office of the chairman.

Abia Police Debunk Report of 488 Boko Haram Members Arrested in State

As reported by Vanguard, the Abia State Police Command has dismissed claims circulating online that 488 suspected Boko Haram members were arrested in the state.

The Command was reacting to a viral video on social media alleging that the arrests recently took place in Abia. However, the police described the report as false, misleading, and capable of causing panic and unrest among residents.

According to the police, the video being shared is not recent, noting that it is an old broadcast from over 11 years ago and does not represent the present security situation in Abia State.

The statement further reaffirmed that the Abia State Police Command remains committed to its constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property, while maintaining the relative peace currently enjoyed in the state. Residents were urged to continue their lawful activities without fear.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) also advised members of the public to avoid spreading unverified information and to rely only on credible sources for security updates.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, warned against the spread of false reports aimed at causing public panic, stressing that anyone found guilty of such actions would be arrested and prosecuted under Section 59 of the Criminal Code Act and the Cybercrime (Prohibition/Prevention) Act.
