Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has convicted and sentenced Victor Dickson to life imprisonment for defiling his neighbour’s six-month-old baby in Lagos State.
The judgment was delivered on Monday, April 13, 2026. The court also ordered that Dickson’s name be entered into the Lagos State Sex Offenders Register, in line with Sections 33 and 38 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law, 2021.
While delivering the ruling, Justice Oshodi stated that the prosecution successfully proved the charge of sexual assault by penetration beyond reasonable doubt. He noted that the circumstantial evidence presented before the court was strong, compelling, and clearly linked Dickson to the crime.
The judge dismissed the convict’s denial, describing his attempt to distance himself from the offence as unconvincing.
The court further recounted the testimony of the baby’s mother, who told the court that Dickson took the child while she was outside washing clothes, carried her into his room, and assaulted her.
Justice Oshodi described the victim as extremely vulnerable and condemned the act as “animalistic,” stressing the need for punishment that would protect society and deter others from committing similar crimes.
“You betrayed the trust reposed in you. The child cried throughout but could not call for help,” the judge said.
The court ruled that Dickson’s actions violated Section 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, and consequently sentenced him to life imprisonment.
