A TV Platinum correspondent, whose live broadcast was monitored by SaharaReporters on Facebook, reported from the National Stadium in Abuja that the convention ground remained completely inactive at the expected commencement time.

“We are live at the National Stadium in Abuja where the Nafiu Bala-led faction of ADC is expected to hold their national convention,” the reporter stated.

“Now as you can see, the venue is empty. There is nobody here. No preparation ongoing. No delegate, no party members. The whole place is empty. Everywhere is empty. The velodrome is locked.”

The unexpected development comes amid rising internal conflict within the ADC, after reports emerged that Bala’s faction had fixed April 21, 2026, for its own national convention at the Abuja National Stadium.

The proposed convention is the latest move in the party’s escalating leadership crisis, with rival claims of authority between Bala’s faction and another group led by former Senate President David Mark.

Only days earlier, Bala had dismissed the April 14 national convention organised by the Mark-led faction, describing it as illegal and invalid. He argued that the event violated an existing court judgment, stressing that any convention held contrary to the Court of Appeal ruling issued on March 12, 2026, would be considered legally void.

Bala also pointed to the absence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the rival convention as evidence that it lacked official legitimacy and would not withstand judicial scrutiny.

He further accused the opposing camp of acting unlawfully, including allegations of forging documents bearing his signature. Bala also rejected claims that the Mark-led coalition had lawfully adopted the ADC as its political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the process was manipulated to hijack the party’s leadership structure.

According to Bala, what was initially presented as a political alignment quickly became a deliberate effort to restructure the party without following constitutional procedures.

He maintained that his faction remains the authentic leadership of the ADC and insisted that the rival camp lacks the legal authority to convene a national convention or make binding decisions on behalf of the party.

The leadership dispute has already moved to the courts, with Bala confirming that the matter is currently before Justice Emeka Nwite, following INEC’s refusal to recognise him as acting national chairman.

As of the time of this report, Bala’s faction had yet to issue any official statement explaining why the convention venue remained empty, raising fresh concerns about the feasibility of the planned gathering and highlighting the deepening crisis within the ADC.

The defendants listed in the charge include Major General Mohammed Ibrahim Gana (retd), Captain (NN) Erasmus Victor (retd), Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Kashim Goni and Abdulkadir Sani. They are expected to be arraigned on Wednesday before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.

The charge was filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN. The defendants are facing serious allegations ranging from treason and terrorism to failure to disclose intelligence reports and money laundering linked to terrorism financing.

According to the prosecution, the accused persons allegedly conspired in 2025 to levy war against Nigeria with the intention of intimidating and overpowering the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The offence is said to be punishable under Section 37(2) of the Criminal Code.

The Federal Government further claimed that the defendants had prior knowledge of a planned treasonable act involving one Colonel Mohammed Alhassan Ma’aji and others, but allegedly failed to report the information to the President or security authorities within a reasonable time.

They were also accused of failing to take necessary steps to prevent the alleged plot from being carried out.

In addition to treason-related allegations, the defendants are also being prosecuted under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. The government accused them of conspiring to commit acts of terrorism capable of destabilising Nigeria’s constitutional structure.

The charge specifically alleged that Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim and Zekeri Umoru attended meetings linked to terrorist activities in an attempt to promote a political ideology capable of threatening national stability.

The prosecution also accused the defendants of providing support for terrorism, claiming they knowingly offered indirect assistance aimed at facilitating acts of terror. They were further accused of withholding intelligence that could have helped security agencies prevent the alleged terrorist activities.

The case also involves financial transactions believed to be linked to terrorism financing. According to the charge, Bukar Kashim Goni allegedly retained N50 million suspected to be proceeds of terrorism financing, while Abdulkadir Sani allegedly retained N2 million.

Zekeri Umoru was accused of accepting N10 million in cash outside the banking system and retaining an additional N8.8 million suspected to be linked to the alleged scheme. Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim was also accused of taking possession of N1 million believed to be part of the same unlawful proceeds.

All financial-related allegations were filed under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

The matter is expected to come up for arraignment in court on Wednesday as the Federal Government continues its prosecution of the accused persons.

APC Releases 2027 Primary Election Timetable, Fixes Presidential Form at ₦100m

The timetable, made public in Abuja on Monday, April 20, 2026, begins with the issuance of a formal notice of election to APC state chapters on the same day.

According to the schedule, the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms will run from Saturday, April 25 to Saturday, May 2, 2026. Aspirants are expected to submit completed forms and relevant documents on or before Monday, May 4, 2026.

The document, signed by the APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, also states that screening of aspirants for all elective positions—including State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, governorship, and the presidency—will take place between Wednesday, May 6 and Friday, May 8, 2026.

Screening results are expected to be published on Saturday, May 9, while appeals by dissatisfied aspirants will be received from Monday, May 11 to Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

The party’s primaries have been arranged in stages, beginning with the presidential primary scheduled for Friday, May 15 to Saturday, May 16, 2026. The House of Representatives primary will follow on Monday, May 18, while the Senate primary is slated for Wednesday, May 20. State House of Assembly primaries will hold on Thursday, May 21, with governorship primaries fixed for Saturday, May 23, 2026.

The timetable also provides for post-primary appeals. Presidential primary appeals will hold on Monday, May 18, while appeals for other categories—House of Representatives, Senate, State Assembly, and governorship—will take place between May 20 and May 25, 2026.

The APC further disclosed the cost of nomination forms for each position. Presidential aspirants are required to pay ₦30 million for the expression of interest form and ₦70 million for the nomination form, totalling ₦100 million.

Governorship aspirants will pay ₦10 million for expression of interest and ₦40 million for nomination, amounting to ₦50 million. Senate aspirants will pay ₦3 million and ₦17 million respectively, totalling ₦20 million, while House of Representatives aspirants will pay a combined ₦10 million. Aspirants seeking seats in the State House of Assembly will pay ₦1 million for expression of interest and ₦5 million for nomination, totalling ₦6 million.

Speaking on the timetable, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the schedule was released in line with constitutional and electoral guidelines, including the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act 2026, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revised timetable for the 2027 general elections.

Morka stated that the timetable covers key processes such as screening, appeals, primaries, and the sale of forms, adding that the party remains committed to credible and transparent primaries.

He reassured members and Nigerians that the APC is determined to strengthen internal democracy and uphold its progressive ideals as preparations for the 2027 general elections officially commence.

The tragic event occurred at about 7am on Monday when a truck conveying passengers and goods came into contact with a high-tension power line.

The victims were said to be travelling from Zaria in Kaduna State to Lagos when the accident happened.

A resident of the area, Mohammed Baba, who spoke with Daily Trust, explained that the truck struck the cable while attempting to avoid potholes along the road.

According to him, the high-tension line, which supplies power to Agaie, has remained dangerously loose for a long time, causing repeated accidents involving heavy-duty vehicles.

“This is not the first time vehicles have come in contact with the same wire. One of the high-tension lines has loosened, and heavy trucks often hit it,” Baba said.

He added that the travellers were on a truck heavily loaded with goods, and when the wire touched one passenger, others were electrocuted as well.

The bodies of the deceased, alongside the injured victims, were reportedly taken to the police station in Badeggi. Baba further disclosed that authorities used the victims’ mobile phones to reach out to their families.

Meanwhile, residents have appealed to the Nigerian government to urgently reconstruct the damaged road and fix the hazardous power line to prevent further tragedies.

Efforts to get an official response from the Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Aishat Sa’ad, were unsuccessful, as she had yet to respond as of the time this report was filed.
